We have added three new high school musicians to our Joyful Strings and Winds Ensemble and will be welcoming three more string players in February! We welcome Alexa, Connor, and Lily! They join Grant (our other amazing HS musician) and other "older" members of this amazing music ensemble that plays on the First Sunday of the most months.** Are you a high school or a college-age musician or a local community member who plays at a high-school level or above and seeking to perform once a month with a growing ensemble? Does playing in an ensemble or band interest you, but you don't know how to put one together? Would you be interested in starting up a NEW Praise Band and or joining an existing String/Wind Group at Messiah Lutheran Church in Wauconda? These ensembles will perform one Sunday a month with one practice a week. Live worship in our sanctuary where we celebrate Holy Communion with a diverse mix of music and instrumentation. Sunday School is held during our 9:30AM service. Children attend the beginning of worship through Communion, then are dismissed to their classes. Worship is at the heart of our life in Christ. We celebrate Holy Communion at home via Zoom on Saturdays at 5 p.m. On Sundays at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., we worship in person! Children are always welcome in worship. We gather for special days: Christmas Eve and Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and on Wednesday evenings during Lent. Additionally, we offer a livestream of our worship service on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. on our YouTube and Facebook pages. Watch live or on-demand. Sunday School is offered for children in preschool through elementary school. Sunday School takes place during our 9:30 am worship service from September through May. Community, fellowship, and mutual support are a big part of how we live out the faith formed in worship and learning.  We support each other and members of the wider community in times of difficulty with trained, accountable Stephen Ministers. Anyone seeking baptism for themselves or a child, wishing to have confirmation or first communion instruction after middle school, interested in joining the church or just wanting to learn more about Christianity is welcome to participate in our New Member classes. He hopes you’ll drop in for worship some Sunday and stick around long enough to introduce yourself. Pr. Dan and his wife Laura were in the same confirmation class at Epiphany Lutheran in Elmhurst, Illinois and started dating their junior year at York High School. They went to different colleges (Dan to Michigan State and Laura to Valparaiso) and got married while Dan was in seminary and Laura was in grad school at the University of Chicago. Laura currently works remotely as the Grants Manager at Donnelly College in Kansas City, KS, a Catholic college rated the most ethnically and racially diverse college in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. Laura and Dan are the proud parents of two 20-something sons, Jeremy and Eli, and the humans of one very old-soul mutt named Tony. Dan and Laura love to laugh, learn, travel, and read—though for Dan that means blogs and Bibles, and for Laura it’s whatever fiction book she’s got tucked in her purse. Dan's favorite food is sushi and/or French Toast, and his most beloved Jesus parable is the Prodigal Son. Lisa started with Messiah Lutheran Church in the summer of 2022 and we can't imagine the office without her! She brings several years of office experience with her. When Lisa is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and three dogs. During the warmer months she likes to be outside taking care of her lawn, gardening or enjoying her deck.  Ms. Mary Bart, an energetic, friendly, broadly experienced leader in children’s program development, event planning, recruitment, management, and staff development—and yes, even teaching Sunday School! She’s a convert with her late husband to Lutheranism after growing up Roman Catholic, and is also an LPN. Pam Dadian is our passionate, talented, dedicated Music Director. Pam has served Messiah for over 40 years and continues to share her musical gifts with our community, Pam and her team of musicians provide the music for each of our worship services. Pam oversees our vocal choir, ensemble praise band SANS, and coordinates our Joyful Strings and Winds ensemble and Gosbells handbell choir.  Barry and his wife Linda have been members of Messiah since 1984. Married to his lovely wife Linda for 41 years, they have three children ages 40, 39, and 32. In the past, he has served on Church Council as President, VP and member for a few terms spread out over the years. He has also served several years on the Before /After Care board, and one term on the Preschool Board. Currently he is serving on the Finance, Property and HR committees. Barry's corporate experience spanned over 40 years in Service andOperations management positions. He retired in 2018 as Sr. Director, Logistics for Canon Solutions America. He and Linda love long summer vacations and boating at the New Jersey Shore!  Ken joined Messiah in Pastor Dan’s first New Member Class in 2024. He has past experience as church treasurer, and finance committee member. Now retired, his past careers include running a small retail business, and working as a CPA for an accounting/auditing firm Ken, and his wife, Jan, moved to Mundelein in 2017. Prior to that, they lived in Elmhurst, IL for over 40 years, owning and operating Elmhurst Ace Hardware. After 33 years as a music teacher and school superintendent, he retired and found a new passion working with the excellent team at Messiah. His skills are further developing the member and guest experience at Messiah. He and his team are also updating and improving communication channels to better articulate the incredible work of the many Messiah ministries serving as Jesus' arms and legs on earth. Oh, and you may see him behind the piano, playing cello, drums and even directing the choir once in a while. If you have any interest in serving on any of our worship and music teams, let us know! This team of volunteers sets up the Sanctuary and prepares the supplies needed for each service, including Holy Communion and wine. They also graciously plan and arrange for special services, such as funerals and memorial services. This key team ensures cameras, audio, and live-streaming run smoothly so worship services and other events can be enjoyed by all. Training is always provided for new members of the media/tech team, so whatever your experience, if you're interested and enthusiastic you can help ensure the show goes on! Email info@messiah-wauconda.org and someone will reach out to you right away! Communion Assistants serve with and support the Pastor during communion. In addition, a Lead Communion Assistant reads the prayers of the people prior to communion. We are open to assistants of all ages - if you're interested, please call the church office: (847) 526-7161 or email info@messiah-wauconda.org Members of the First Impressions Team welcome and assist members and guests in the Gathering Area and Sanctuary, provide bulletins, gather gifts, and guide worshippers to Holy Communion during the service. We just LOVE how music connects our hearts and souls. Messiah's **Adult Choir** leads the congregation in song during worship two Sundays each month and on special occasions. They rehearse on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm. Are you interested in being a part of this musical ensemble, contact Pam Dadian at info@messiah-wauconda.org. **Our Sing a New Song (SANS) contemporary praise band** leads worship two Sundays per month, and rehearses a few Saturdays per month. Are you interested in being a part of this exciting worship group, contact Pam Dadian at info@messiah-wauconda.org. **Gosbells**, our adult handbell choir, plays for worship once a month and on special occasions. Rehearsal is on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. Are you interested in being a part of this musical ensemble, contact Linda Fishburn at info@messiah-wauconda.org. Messiah's string ensemble leads worship at the 9:30 am service 6 times per year. All ages and levels of talent are welcome! We are always looking for musicians to join us. We are proud to offer quality, in-house opportunities for all. Whether you're seeking private preschool or kindergarten, Sunday school, youth, or adult bible study programs, you've come to the right place! One of Messiah's largest ministries, Messiah Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten with Before & After Care offers quality education, experienced teachers and assistants, and a caring, supportive learning environment. Our program is accredited by NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and has received their Award of Excellence for faculty, facility, and curriculum annually for the last 15 years! MLPK is consistently among the top-rated preschool and kindergarten programs in the area. If you're interested in learning more, please head over to our dedicated school website for information or contact our Preschool Director, Erica Jawnyj, to schedule a tour!  Messiah's Sunday School program is designed for children in Preschool through 5th Grade. We teach children the foundations of our faith using a variety of fun activities.  Sunday School meets most Sundays from September through May during our 9:30 AM worship service, following the children's message. Children are invited to arrive to worship with their parents or guardians, stay in the Sanctuary through the children's message, and then are dismissed to their Sunday School classes. \*Please note, Sunday School is not a drop-off activity.  For more information on our Sunday School program, contact our Church Office at 847-526-7161. Messiah proudly hosts a summer Vacation Bible School program for children in preschool through 5th Grade (children MUST be potty-trained). We welcome children from the surrounding community to join the fun as we explore our faith in a variety of fun activities.  You do *NOT* need to be a member of Messiah to attend our VBS program! All are welcome! First Holy Communion is an important milestone in our faith. First Holy Communion is intended for students in fifth grade who are in their last year of our Sunday School program. Fifth grade students are invited to participate in a retreat in April to prepare them for their First Holy Communion. Middle school students will study Luther's Small Catechism and prepare for lives of faith, friendship and service. Bible Study welcomes everyone who is seeking to strengthen their faith through studying the Scriptures for the upcoming Sunday Worship. This multi-week course is offered for those wishing to baptize a child or be baptized themselves, prepare for Holy Communion or Confirmation as an adult, become a member of Messiah, or learn more about the faith we share.
